Fighting Vehicle of Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo designed this tank to break enemy lines in combat.

This vehicle was designed by Leonardo Da Vinci during 1487 when he was under the employment of Ludovico Sforza.

People have speculated that this was designed in relation to a turtle. Its cover is made up of Conical shape material. The angle of the cover was design to deflect incoming enemy firepower.

MAIN REASON FOR ITS CREATION:

To be offered to a potential Patron as means of breaking enemies line in war and to minimize the number of causalities (of the side using the tank).

INNOVATIONS INTRODUCED:

Driven by men turning gear cranks, which turn the wheels. At least 4 men needed to turn them with the cranks.

The dome is based on the shell of the turtle and helps to deflect enemy projectiles.

The Tanks supports a number of cannons.

DA VINCI QUOTE:

‘These take the place of the elephants. One may tilt with them. One may hold bellows in them to spread terror among the horses of the enemy, and one may put carabineers them to break up every company.’

INFORMATION:

Leonardo had intentionally placed the gears of the design in reverse order, which makes the tank unworkable.

Leonardo placed the misinformation in his design as a form of security if somebody stole his design and used the tank irresponsibly.

NEXT DATE OF INVENTION:

1915, September: A prototype was created in Britain called ‘Little Willie’ for the Royal Navy.

Around four men inside the tank turn the gears with brute force, which in turn moves the wheels forward.

The tank was tested semi-successfully recently as once Leonardo’s gears were reversed (as Leonardo drew them backwards), the tank worked just as Leonardo described.
